Steady progress

The chicks continue to grow and they have reached the stage where the female is leaving the nest to chill on the lower roof between four and five pm each evening. The chicks are now well-feathered and are able to keep themselves warm and, and a result, the female has often been sitting outside, either on the side of the nest, or on the front step during the day. When she is in the nest however, she seems to keep the chicks behind her at the back of the box – perhaps to protect them from the crows and Egyptian Geese.
