The next step . . .
Yesterday morning there was a commotion from the owl nest box just before 08:30. The Egyptian Geese – who had been showing interest in using the nest box, were calling agitatedly and I ran up to the tower roof, climbed the ladder, and looked over the wall. The female owl flushed from the front step of the box and flew to the tree next to the air quality-monitoring station. The box had been empty when I checked earlier – so the female had obviously flown across from the Evergreen Oak and tried to chase off the geese. Promising signs!
This morning I checked the box at 06:30, and the female was inside! She was standing up and had obviously not settled in and there was no sign of an egg yet – but things are happening!
