Mr Malusi Vatsha


The Board of Directors of DEC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Malusi Vatsha as the new Executive Officer for DEC with effect from 1 January 2016.

Malusi Vatsha had been employed by DEC for the past 3 years as Project Manager for the YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE (YES) Project in the North West Province. This Project was fully-funded by the Dept. of Environmental Affairs’ (national) Environmental Protection & Infrastructure Programme (EPIP). In each of the 3 years the YES-NW project employed 100 participants from different Local Municipalities in the Province who were between the ages of 18 and 35. The project consisted of accredited short course training, community service and pursuing exit opportunities. Malusi and his team of Project Officers, supported by training, financial and administrative staff at DEC were successful in concluding the Project each year to the satisfaction of the Department and its stakeholders. – a great achievement!

Malusi is a qualified High School geography teacher by profession and he has the following academic degrees – BA, HDE, B.Ed (Hons) and he will be awarded his M.Ed (Science Education by the University of Johannesburg in May 2016. His past work experience includes being the Assistant Director of Environmental Education at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden (Roodepoort) and the Manager: Environmental Education & Training at Indalo Yethu (an environmental awareness entity established by the Dept. of Environmental Affairs).

With his broad base of experience and appropriate qualifications, Malusi is well-placed to capably steer DEC in the years that lie ahead into a sustainable future, accepting the challenges that are faced by non-profit companies.
