Delta is accredited training provider with the ETDP SETA for the National Diploma in Environmental Education, Training and Development Practices (22902) Level 5. The diploma has been offered to various groups since 2009. In 2010 the diploma was run with a group of GDARD (Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) officials. In 2012 a group of 5 environmental education certificate graduates from a 2009/10 DEA/WESSA learnership programme completed the diploma qualification with Delta. Between 2014 and 2015, the diploma was offered to a group of 6 YES 2013 graduates from Maquassi Hills Local Municipality. This qualification was also offered to 6 candidates on a learnership programme with Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality between 2014 and 2016; and also to a group of 6 Department of Environmental Affairs candidates who were beneficiaries on the Groen Sebenza project.
Delta is currently in the process of completing the qualification with 30 youth from Kgetleng Rivier Local Municipality and Moretele Local Municipality who were part of the Youth Environmental Service project 2015 in North West Province. This was a very successful exit opportunity for these 30 youth and was made possible with funding from the National Lotteries Commission.
Delta was the implementing agency for the Youth Environmental Service Project in North West Province (2013 – 2015), which was funded by the Department of Environmental Affairs. The accredited training offered to the beneficiaries of this project was a skills programme of 96 credits titled "Environmental Issues, Risks and Responses." Over the 3 years a competency rate of 94% was achieved amongst the 300 beneficiaries who took part.
Delta has once again been awarded the Youth Environmental Services Project in Gauteng from DEA for the period of 2017 to 2019. In this round of the project 260 youth in Gauteng province will be trained on the skills programme "Environmental Issues, Risks and Responses" which has been extended to 147 credits, incorporating a comprehensive and contextual workplace module.
In addition Delta is one of the partners for the Environmental Teacher Training Programme "Fundisa for Change". Various programmes have been offered to teachers from Gauteng Province on the Climate Change and Water Modules. This programme is SACE accredited and therefore contributes meaningfully to the professional development of teachers.
Delta also has some short courses that are certified through North West University (NWU), some examples being "Develop Environmental Learning programmes", Developing Inclusive Environmental Learning Programmes and "Developing Environmental Action Projects". These are run from time to time as funding is received from various stakeholders.
Delta works closely with funders and partners like DEA, Rand Merchant Bank, the National research Foundation, South African National Botanical Institute and Ekurhuleni Metro to ensure that youth and teachers are upskilled on sustainable environmental practices, in order to achieve our Vision and Mission and create a better environment for all.
