The owl files – Chapter 2 : And now there are two . . . maybe?

And now there are two . . . maybe?

After several weeks of listening to the persistent nightly ‘hoo-hugh . . . HUGH!’ calls of the (usually silent) female as she sought a replacement for the male who died in December, this morning just after 05:00 I startled awake – there was a male Spotted Eagle Owl calling from the roof above. Leaping out of bed, I went searching for a view of the visitor – eventually glimpsing it sitting on the lower roof next to the Evergreen Oak that the female has been using as a roost. Hopeful signs – could this be Delta’s new male ?
