Brrrr . . . . it’s cold out there!!!
After spending most of the past four days on the roof under the nest box, both chicks were snuggling together in the nest when I checked at 06:00. Obviously, it provides at least some protection from the chilly wind! They were right at the back of the nest and it was hard to get a clear view but you can at least see how far the flight feathers have developed.
Unfortunately the crows had brought in reinforcements, and I flushed nine of them when my head popped up over the wall. The female was on the roof next to the box and standing her ground and, seemingly, able to protect the chicks – even without my help!
